Isi artikelThe familiy is a cardinal moral institution and a major as well as bioethical controversy. There are profound moral, social, and political disagreements regarding the normativity of the traditional family and its claims to authority and autonomy. Both the various feminism and the homosexual movements have brought the family as a marital union of a man and a woman with their children into question. Increasingly, women reproduce outside of formal marital union. Nevertheless, the question remains of the authority of the parents (even when there is only one parent, such as a single mother) over children and of families over their members.
