Background: Human needs sleep to maintain mental health, physical health, and quality of life. University students often experience sleep problems, especially insomnia. Insomnia can be resolved by practicing good sleep hygiene. This study can help students to realize the importance of sleep hygiene to overcome insomnia. Method: The study design used is cross sectional categoric analytic. There are 123 medical students of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia batch 2014-2016 that are chosen by simple random sampling technique. They filled Sleep Hygiene Index and Insomnia Severity Index questionnaires. Result: There is an association between sleep hygiene practices and insomnia level, p=0,000 (p<0,05). 5,7% respondents practice good sleep hygiene, 41,5% respondents practice average sleep hygiene, and 52,8% respondents practice bad sleep hygiene. ISI score shows 42,3% respondents have no insomnia, 46,3% respondents have mild insomnia, 9,8% respondents have moderate insomnia, and 1,6% respondents have severe insomnia. Conclusion: This study shows an association between sleep hygiene practices and insomnia level in medical students of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia batch 2014-2016. |
