Accurate information about drug use in the community has theree main applications. Firstly, audits of prescribing patterns can be conducted, perhaps to assess their appropriatness. Secondly, the data can be used to monitor cost associated with drug therapy. Thirdly, drug usage data can be used to investigate problems related to during safety.
