Isi artikel
Mortalityamong young generation was analyzed from a secondary data of the 1995's National HouseholdHealth Survey and 1994's Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey. The analysis showedthat the proportion of deaths was lowest among 15 to 24 years of age, which was 3,3% in 1992and 5,3% in 1995. "Infectious and parasitic diseases" were the major underlying causes of deathsamong the 10-14 years age group, covering 22,5% deaths, and 19,7% deaths caused by "accidentsand injuries". The same disease pattern was observed as the underlying cause of deaths amongthe age group of 20-24 years. Among young adult females aged 10-24 years, in addition to "infectiousand parasitic diseases", pregnancy, childbirth and puerperium were showed as the second majorunderlying cause of death. Abortions, eclampsia. and postpartum hemorrhage obstructed laborandother obstetric complications wereincluded in the related-problemsto pregnancy, childbirth andpuerperium. Most of these problems occurred at the age of 15-19years. "Accidents and injuries" dueto traffic accidents, drowning and falls were the most prevalent underlying causes of deaths amongmalesaged 10-24years. Most of these premature deaths were preventable, through preventive measuresof getting transmitted with infectious and parasitic diseases, and safety behavior on traffic andtransportation practices.
