Abstract
Background : Malnutrition is one of the most common problem in hospital, including for stroke patients. Many screening tools have been developed to assess the risk of patients who are malnourished or not. Some studies showed that Malnutrition Screening Tool (MST) has the highest sensitivity and specificity among all screening tools that have been used.
Goal: to find the sensitivity and specificity of MST in Atma Jaya Hospital’s stroke patients.
Method : Clinical data from 96 patients who had stroke was retrospectively collected from the medical record department of Atma Jaya Hospital. Data from MST and the combined from Body Mass Index (BMI), Hemoglobin (Hb), and Total Lymphocyte Count (TLC) were collected to be analyzed using 2 x 2 table to get sensitivy and specificity value. Data were analyzed using the Principal Computing Analysis technique. Out of 96 patients, only 72 patients were chosen because 24 patients had their missing data on the coloumn of TLC.
Results: Sensitivity and specificity of MST based on multi parameter scoring is 30,77% and 84,75%, predicitive positive value and predictive negative value of MST based on multi parameter scoring is 30,77% and 84,75%.
Conclusion: MST cannot be used in acute stroke patients because it’s sensitivity is low.
