Potassium nitrate containing toothpastes are the most widely used at home treatments for reducing dentine hypersensitivity. The objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of potassium nitrate containing toothpaste in reducing dentine hypersensitivity. The study was a clinical experimental study using before after research design. The subjects of the study were the patients suffered dentine hy,oersensitivity. The subjects were instructed to use the potassium nitrate containing toothpaste and were evaluated after 2, 4, and 8 weeks. The results of the study showed that potassium nitrate containing toothpaste reduced dentine hypersensitivity after the use of the toothpaste for 2, 4, and 8 weeks. Thesubjects reported the improvement in their condition after using potassium nitrate containing toothpaste for 2 weeks, and more improvement after using it for 4 and 8 weeks respectively. It was concluded that using potassium nitrate containing toothpaste was an effective treatment for eliminating dentine hypersensitivity.
