Abstract
Background: Indonesia is known to have many biodiversity which can be used as natural larvicide. Betle leaf extract has been proven to be biolarvicide against Aedes aegypti larvae. Besides, red betle leaf has the same active compound which can be used as biolarvicide. This research is done in order to compare both betle leaf and red betle leaf, to know which species is better as biolarvicide.
Method: This experiment used 10 A. aegypti larvae speciments for each concentration group. P. betle leaf and P. crocatum leaf are both extracted using maceration extraction and divided into three groups of concentration of 150 mg/L, 200 mg/L, and 250 mg/L. The control of 10 larvae in 1L of water was also performed. The observation was done in the 6th, 12th, 18th, and 24th hour.
Result: There is no significant difference of letal effect in different concentration with p=0,264 (p>0,05) in P. betle extract and p=0,093 (p>0,05) in P. crocatum extract. But, there is significant diffrence of letal effect in different time of exposure with p=0,000 (p<0,005) in both Piper extract.Letal effect in 250 mg/L concentration of extract counted at 24th hour was 40% in P. betle extract and 46,66% in P.crocatum extract.
Conclusion: Betle leaf and red betle leaf has biolarvicide effect against A. aegypti larvae. With larger concentration and time of exposure, the bigger lethal effect to the larvae.
