Background : In 2007, proportion of more than 15 years old smoker is 34,2% and increased became 36,3% in 2013. Furthermore, based on final report of BNN in 2014, the estimated amount of drugs abuse in 2014 is predicted around 2,18% and predicted to increased up to 2,23% in 2016.Based on absolute numbers, West Sumatera Province sit on 14th place for drugs abuse. As number of smoker in Indonesia is increasing, the risk for drugs abuse is increasing too.
Methods : This research is a research of analytic descriptive with the cross sectional approachment. Respondents for this study is taken from SMP Yos Sudarso 2, SMAN 1 Siberut Selatan, SMP Negeri 1 Selatan, Siberut Selatan, SMA Lentera Mentawai, SMP Lentera Harapan and SMKN 2 Kepulauan Mentawai students with proportional stratified random sampling technique. Modified GYTS questionnaire is given to respondents to find out their smoking behavior and also respondent’s urine is cheked using urine dipstick to find out what kind of drugs they used.
Result : 93 people take part in this research, 50 junior high school students and 43 senior high school students. Bivariate analyzes found that here is a relation between gender and smoking status (p = 0,005), age and smoking stages(p = 0,038), age and smoking cessation (p = 0,0275), gender and smoking cessation(p = 0,024). However, There is a no relation between smoking behavior and drugs consumption because only 1 respondent found using drugs. Conclusion : Age and gender become smoking risk factor among junior and shigh school students in Mentawai Islands. Related to it, junior and senior high school students in Mentawai Islands already using drugs. |
