Background: Neuropathic pain is pain that triggered by a lesion of the somatosensory nervous. One important component in making the diagnosis of neuropathic pain is assessing the quality of the symptom of the pain. Objectives: The purpose of this research is to know symptomatology of neuropathic pain patients at Atma Jaya Hospital March - August 2017 period. Methods: This research was done using descriptive method. The sample uses in this research are data from all patients with neuropathic pain in Atma Jaya Hospital neurology clinic from March to August 2017, with total of 80 patients. Results: The results of this study showed the highest number of neuropathic pain patients were female (58.7%), age 40-60 years old (51.2%), middle educational level (70%), and low socioeconomic level (57.5%). Frequency of symptoms of neuropathic pain from highest to lowest in sequence: tingling (72.5%), numbness (56.3%), electric shock (50%), cramped pain (47.5%), stabbing pain (45%), pain evoked by heat/cold (26.3%), pain evoked by mild pressure (23.8%), pain evoked by light touch (16.3%), burning pain (15%), lancinating pain (11.3%), change of skin temperature (7.5%), change of skin colour (6.3 %), itching (5%), and ice-like pains (3.8%). The most common types of neuropathic pain are radiculopathy lumbosacral (28.7%), followed by low back pain (15%), post-stroke pain (15%), DM neuropathy (12.5%), cervical radiculopathy (12.5%), and carpal tunnel syndrome (7.5%). Most neuropathic pain patients experience symptoms in combination. Conclusion: Neuropathic pain most commonly experienced by women, age 40-60 years, low education level and low socioeconomic level. Symptom of pain varies in each type of neuropathic pain. |
