Background : Body Mass Index (BMI) is one of the method used to measure nutritional status. There are four categories such as underweight, normal, overweight and obesity. Overweight and obesity are used to describe excessive weight, which had been known to deter one’s health in various ways, including foot arch index. It is believed that obesity and overweight will lead to low foot arch index. Objectives : To analyze the correlation between Body Mass Index (BMI) and foot arch index among students of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia batch 2016. Methods : Analytical cross sectional design was chosen for this study. Total of 97 respondents were medical students of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia batch 2016. In prior of height, weight and foot arch measurements, all respondents were required to fill in informed consent. Results : Using Staheli’s Arch Index (SAI), 45 overweight respondents had the most numbers of people with low foot arch index. Using Pearson correlation test, it is proven that body mass index had correlation to foot arch index level with significant value (p) of 0.000 and Pearson correlation value of 0,427. Conclusion : There are correlation between body mass index (BMI) and foot arch index. |
