The ‘Thesaurus of Indo-Germanic Text and Language Materials’ was initiated in 1987. Its objective is the coordination and data-pool accumulation of the complete digitalized textual materials of the ancient indo-germanic languages. 1995 saw the inauguration of a central web server enabling research into an in-depth source documentation. Comprehensive study of languages, manuscripts and inscriptions, crosslinguistic evidence and concordance matches is made possible. Yet considerable problems have had to be solved arising from the variegated linguistic and inscriptional specificities of the individual languages and documentation materials. Common solution denominators have been Unicode coding and HTML structures coordinated via stylesheets; pre-indexing of the linguistic materials; databank storage; SQL databank access via ASP pages and Javascript hyperlinking. A change-over to XML structuring is being considered.
