Isi artikelThis paper analyzes the gender symbolism in Makassarese folklore especially in form of folktale. The anthropological linguistics approach is used to explain the value of Makassarese culture. The results of analysis indicate that symbols like gender dichotomy (women and men) refer to some categories such as macrocosmos, flora, and fauna (poultries, insects) and other objects that are close to social cultural environments of Makassarese community. Moreover, the use of symbols indicates the role and the position of women and men in their daily life.
