Abstract
PT. XYZ is one of the companies which specialize in fiber optic cable manufacturing. As a relatively new company, PT. XYZ has some major problems to overcome. These problems were mainly caused by the traditional information system in the PPIC department, mainly in the material transfer process. Today's information regarding the transferred material is collected by hand and then manually entered into a personal computer (PC). The collected data are kept in different folders, which makes integration between information and processes becomes difficult. This results in longer process time and data inaccuracy. In consequence of this problem, this research discusses about a proposal of information system design to assist the material transfer process in PT. XYZ. The proposed information system design was a prototype, combined with barcode system and designed according to the 4 phases in System Development Life Cycle—planning, analyzing, designing and implementation. The system testing results show that the prototype proposed system not only decreases the process time by 47,07% compared to the current system used, but also has a high learnability rate. The trials show that the ratios of the process times in most processes vary between 1,13-1,92 (with the average ratio of 1,35) with only 2 processes have higher ratio than the average. The other outcomes of this prototype proposed system are material usage and monitoring report.
