Abstract
Elements of the machine receive many shock loads so want to know the ability to increase the resistance and shock load on AISI 1050 Steel. In the application, AISI 1050 Steel is widely used in motorcycle components such as chain link and follower arm. In accordance with the designation, required to have high toughness. One way to obtain such mechanical properties is through the process of heat treatment by austempering method. The austempering process will be associated with the effect of temperature on changes in mechanical properties such as microstructure, hardness and toughness. Based on the research data and test obtained, the austempering process can increase the toughness of AISI 1050 Steel.
