Abstract
Background: Dry skin or xerosis is a condition in which the loss or decrease in moisture content of the stratum corneum. In a survey conducted in nursing homes
showed the prevalence of dry skin is 30% and can reach 75%. This condition can be caused by many factors such as detergents, acetone, other chemicals, frequent showers, UV exposure, extreme climates, drug therapy, or genetic disorders.
Objective: This study aims to obtain the prevalence of xerosis and causal factors in Medicine student UNIKA Atma Jaya 2013 in 2017.
Methods: This study is a cross-sectional study conducted on Medicine students of Atma Jaya catholic Universitas Indonesia (FKUAJ). Caused factors data were obtained using the researcher's questionnaire and dry skin or xerosis data obtained using ODS.
Results: The results showed that dry skin prevalence in FKUAJ students 2013 is 23,2% and there is significant correlation between bath frequency and soap type to
xerosis in FKUAJ students 2013 (p <0.05)
Conclusion: The prevalence of xerosis in FKUAJ student 2013 is 23,2% and the factor of xerosis that influences on FKUAJ student 2013 is frequency of bath and
type of soap.
