Background : Diabetic dermopathy (DD) is the commonest skin lesion in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) whose characteristics of lesions are brown colored, atrophic, small, round, asymptomatic, bilateral, and located on the shin (shin spots). It is more common in male patients older than 50 years and long duration of DM. Most patients with DD have increased HbA1c, indicator of poor control of blood glucose levels. DD can be used as the key of early diagnosis and prevention of complications of DM. Researcher wants to know the association of HbA1c level to the prevalence of DD. Methods : This research is using medical record, physical examination with cross sectional design and Fisher Exact test in 82 patients with DM type 2 that has been chosen with consecutive sampling in Inpatient Room Atma Jaya Hospital Jakarta. Researcher collected gender, age, level of HbA1c and DD as the data. Result : The prevalence for diabetic dermopathy in this study was 6 (7,3%) cases in patients with DM type 2 at Atma Jaya Hospital Jakarta. Fisher Exact test shows significant correlation between levels of HbA1c and DD (p=0,032). Conclusion : This research shows quite low number for DD in patients with DM type 2. Patients with DD have uncontrolled levels of HbA1c. |
