Abstract
The development of major industries in the world has never been separated from the process of joining metals. At first, the techniques to joining metal is carried out only between the same kind of metal. But with the development of technology, metal joining techniques can be performed with different types of metal. One method that makes it possible to join different types of metals are brazing. Brazing is a metal-joining technique performed with a temperature above 450 ° C, without melting the parent metal. This metal joining technique is certainly very different from welding technique, which occurs unification bond between the parent metal and filler metal. Brazing joining techniques utilizing capillary attraction phenomenon that occurs in the filler metal to join two of the parent metal so that the filler metal can fit into the gap between both parent metal perfectly. Brazing technique is commonly used to joining plate, pipe, and machinery components. The joining phenomenon that occurs is diffusion bonding between copper as the parent metal and brass as the filler metal. Brazing is most effective to be used for joining pipes and machinery components because this technique has a strong joint (although not as strong as welding techniques) and produce a very neat joint form so suitable for joining metal in things that prioritize aesthetic value.
