Abstract
Background: The most common causes of death of neonates globally are prematurity
and infection. In order to decrease the mortality rate of neonates, one of the efforts
that can be done is by doing early diagnosis in infection cases. Neutrophil-to-
Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) has been widely used as a prognosis determinant and as a
diagnostic marker in some diseases. There is no available research for the reference
range of NLR in healthy neonates yet. The aim of this research is to determine the
reference range of NLR in healthy neonates, in hopes that in the future, NLR will be
able to become a diagnostic marker for diseases and abnormalities in neonates.
Methods: This research is a descriptive and retrospective study with cross sectional
method. The samples are collected through medical records and chosen by
consecutive sampling method. The collected samples are then analyzed using
Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and Spearman’s correlation test using SPSS version 23.0.
Results: The result of this research shows that the reference range of NLR in healthy
neonates is 2,7 – 4,1 and the correlation between NLR and I/T ratio is meaningless
with a weak relationship.
Conclusions: The reference range of NLR in healthy neonates is 2,7 – 4,1 and the
correlation of NLR with I/T ratio is weak and insignificant.
