The prevalence of stroke among people aged under 45 years old is increasing. Characteristics of stroke among young people may be different form characteristics of stroke among older people. Objective. The determine the characteristics of ischemic stroke patients aged < 45 years old and = 45 years old in Atma Jaya Hospital from 1st January 2014 until 31st July 2016. Method. A descriptive analytic study with cross-sectional approach on data from Atma Jaya Hospital Stroke Registry. A total sampling method yields 110 samples. Results. The major risk factors found more significant in the older group is diabetes mellitus (p=0.007) which is which are not statistically significant; TIA was found more in the younger group but not statistically significant. Conclusion. The different characteristic of < 45 years old and = 45 years old ischemic stroke patients was in diabetes mellitus history.
