Abstract
The electricity used for our daily lives or in industries is produced by the power plant. This thesis presents a study about modifying the steam power plant into a combined cycle power plant of gas and steam. A combined cycle power plant has a higher thermal efficiency than a conventional steam power plant and due to the expensive of fossil oil, combined cycle power plant use natural gas as its energy source. Another advantage of combined cycle is the used of fossil oil in the power plant could be eliminated. The calculation for modification Muara Karang's steam power plant into a combined cycle is based on thermal efficiency. Thermal efficiency is a ratio of efficiency between energy used in the system and energy the system produces. By combining the steam power plant with the new design of gas power plant into combined cycle power plant could increase their thermal efficiency. From this research the knowledge in terms of the increased thermal efficiency and the saving of expenses could be established due to the elimination of the usage of fossil oil.
