Abstract
Background: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major global health problem. Indonesia was ranked the five countries with the highest TB burden in the world. Childhood TB is an important factor for developing country like Indonesia because of the number of children aged less than 15 years is 40-50% of the total population. The proportion of childhood TB cases in Jakarta reached 12.5% of all TB cases treated from 2007-2013. The high childhood TB incidence rates can be lowered by increasing the knowledge, attitudes and behavior will prevention of childhood TB disease in the community.
Methods: The design of this study was descriptive analytic that conducted on mother of children 0-14 years old in Kalianyar, West Jakarta. Respondents are given a questionnaire to determine the level of knowledge, attitudes, and behavior regarding the prevention of childhood TB disease.
Result: Results of univariate analysis showed 78.9% of mother have a good level of knowledge of TB, 65.6% of mother have a negative attitude in the prevention of
child TB, and 71.1% of mothers had a good TB prevention behaviors. Bivariate analysis using Chi Square test showed an association between the level of
knowledge of mothers with childhood TB preventive behavior (p = 0.000) and there is a relationship between the attitude of mothers with childhood TB preventive
behavior (p = 0.009).
Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between knowledge level with behavior of childhood TB disease prevention (p<0.05) but there is a significant relationship between attitude with behavior of childhood TB disease prevention (p<0.05).
