Abstract
BACKGROUND : Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It has the second rank as the second cause of mortality after human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in the world, with the prevalence in Indonesia at 2013 is 0,4%. Children are the susceptible one because their immune is still immature especially the close and frequent contact with members who are exposed TB. Screening to children as the prevention and early diagnosis are affected by knowledge of TB. The aims of this study is describe the knowledge and the willingness to screen the children living with pulmonary tuberculosis patients treated at Atma Jaya Hospital.
METHODS : This research is cross sectional and descriptive approach study. This research was conducted by interviewing TB patients about knowledge of TB and willingness to screen their children. The data were analyzed using Fisher’s Exact test.
RESULTS : The study result showed that knowledge of TB in TB patient (n=38) at Atma Jaya Hospital is good (73.7%) and most of patients wants to screen their children (66.7%).
CONCLUSION : Overall, the knowledge of pulmonary tuberculosis patient treated at Atma Jaya Hospital is good and the willingness to screen the children living with pulmonary tuberculosis patients is quite good.
