Malnutrition may influence prolong inpatient in geriatric patient. This research conducted to determine the relation between early Mini Nutritional Assessment and length of stay among geriatric patient. Methods This study was conducted in April until June 2016. Samples of this study is hospitalized geriatric patient (aged 60 years and older) in Ruang Rawat Inap Penyakit Dalam in Atma Jaya Hospital Pluit. The exclusion criterias are patients who go home at his own request and / or his family request, patients with critical ill (example : patients in shock condition, coma, respiratory failure, epileptic status, etc), patients died during hospitalization, patients with decreased or impaired cognitive function. The length of hospitalized geriatric patient was collected with medical record. Early MNA score was determined from MNA questionnaires conducted 48 hours, since the patients are hospitalized. The data was collected primarily and analyzed using chi-square correlation test with significance level of p<0,05. Result The number of subject obtained by 39 peoples, mean age = 67 years old, the most gender was male with total of 22 patients (56.4%). The average value of length of stay is 3-8 days. Most of the subjects showed MNA score less than 17 points which mean they were in malnutrition status. There is a relation between MNA score and length of stay among geriatric patient (p=0,029). Conclusion There is correlation between early MNA score and length of stay among geriatric patient which is statistically significant. |
