Background: Acute Otitis Media (AOM) is a middle ear infection that lasts with acute onset. AOM prevalence rates tend to be higher in developing countries, 80% of children before the age of three at least have experienced one episode of AOM. Therefore there is a need to collect data exclusively to reduce the prevalence of this disease. Objective: To determine the characteristics of AOM patients in toddlers treated at Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) polyclinic of Atma Jaya Hospital in 2015 Method: A cross sectional descriptive study conducted at Atma Jaya Hospital using medical record in 2015. The population of this study was all children under five treated at ENT polyclinic of Atma Jaya Hospital in 2015 with samples taken by total sampling. Result: AOM highest prevalence rate found in the age of 2-5 years old (51%), female gender (56%), good nutritional status (66%), the clinical symptoms of discharge from the ear (31%), has history of Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI) (73%), perforation stage (63%), unilateral AOM (59%), and treated by amoxicillin clavulanate (44%). Conclusion: AOM highest prevalence rate found in the age of 2-5 years old, female gender, good nutritional status, the clinical symptoms of discharge from the ear, has history of Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI), unilateral AOM, and treated by amoxicillin clavulanate. |
