Abstract
Background. Sleep is very important and giving so much benefit for human heath
and well-being. Unfortunately, There are so many medical student with poor sleep
quality. Poor quality of sleep can induce hormonal changes that will affect appetite
and hunger frequency. The goal of this study is searching for correlation between
sleep quality and total food intake in FKUAJ medical student class 2013-2015.
Methodology. This study was conducted in 2016 using by cross-sectional. Sampel
that included in this study is FKUAJ medical student class 2013, 2014, and 2015
(n=260). Questionnaire (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) is used to evaluate sleep
quality and food record or food diary is used to evaluate total food intake among
FKUAJ medical students. The data taken is a primary data and analyzed by using
chi-square test with significance p<0.05.
Results. 144 of the respondent have a poor sleep quality. 122 of the respondents
have total food intake more than recommended. From the results, there is a
relationship between sleep quality and total food intake (p = 0.00). The group with
poor sleep quality has 5 times more risk of having total food intake more than
recommended compared to the group with good sleep quality.
Conclusions. The respondent shows relationship between sleep quality and total
food intake.
