Abstract
Background: The factors that can affect the routine TB treatment of children are the long term duration and lack of knowledge about TB. Anti tuberculosis drugs
resistance in children might occur by the factors mentioned before and cause the patients failed to cure. Therefore, this study was conducted to review the routine TB treatment of children which might help preventing anti tuberculosis drugs resistance.
Methods: Descriptive and cross-sectional study was used in this study to review the routine TB treatment of children. Total sampling method was done to review all
children diagnosed with TB in Pediatric Outpatient Department of Atma Jaya Hospital during year 2014-2015 who underwent 6 months anti tuberculosis
treatment. After reviewing their medical records, the percentages of routine TB treatment of children were calculated.
Results: Fifteen patients’ medical records were reviewed in this study. The result showed 11 persons (73%) were routine and 4 persons (27%) were not routine in 6 months TB treatment. In intensive phase, the percentage of the patients who were not routine for less than 2 weeks and more than 2 weeks couldn’t be defined in this study. In advanced phase, this study showed a result of 3 persons (75%) were not routine
for less than 2 months and 1 person (25%) was not routine for more than 2 months.
Conclusions: In this study, 15 children patients who underwent 6 months anti tuberculosis treatment showed that more patients were routine in their treatment. There were more patients who were not routine for less than 2 months in advanced phase.
