Abstract
Background: Hypertension is still a major world problem. The number of
hypertensive patients is increasing every year. One study found an association
between blood hematocrit level and the incidence of hypertension.
Objective: The aim of this research is to know the appearance of hematocrit level on
hypertensive patients in Atma Jaya Hosptal.
Method: This study was a cross-sectional study using total sampling method. The
samples were all patients with hypertension in Atma Jaya Hospital from January to
December 2015. This study used secondary data from Atma Jaya Hospital’s stroke
registry.
Result: Study showed that 12.66% of all hypertensive patients had hematocrit levels
above the normal limit. All patients with pre-hypertension had hematocrit levels
within normal limits, while 16.67% of patients with hypertension grade I and 12.96%
of patients with hypertension grade II had increased hematocrit levels.
Conclusion: Only a small portion of patients with hypertension had hematocrit
levels above the normal limit.
