Abstract
Background. Aspergillus flavus is one of the leading causes of aspergillosis. It is a dangerous infection which people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk. Aloe vera is a plant that has been used for its health benefit, including as an antifungal medication.
Objectives. This study is undertaken to evaluate the effect of ethanol extract of Aloe vera gel in various concentration on Aspergillus flavus growth quality.
Methods. Ethanol extract of Aloe vera was incorporated into molten subround dextrose agar inside a Petri dish. Aspergillus flavus suspension was inoculated into the solid media.
Result. The effect of ethanol extract of Aloe vera gel on Aspergillus flavus growth quality began to appear at 10-1 mgml-1. Pigmentation reduction showed at 10-1 mgml-1. Colony growth reduction showed at 10 mgml-1. Microscopic morphology showed inhibition of sporulation and cell wall weakening effect of A. vera towards A. flavus.
Conclusion. Ethanol extract of Aloe vera gel reduces Aspergillus flavus growth quality.
