Abstract
Background : Prevalence of infectious disease, especially those caused by Gram-negative bacteria continues to rise and has become a serious problem in the medical word. One of them is Metallo-ß-Lactamase-Producing Acinetobacter baumannii. Therefore conducted a study that aims to determine the prevalence of Metallo-ß-Lactamase-Producing Acinetobacter baumannii from Clinical Specimens of Atma Jaya Hospital in 2014 until 2016.
Methodology : This study is a descriptive study to show the prevalence of Metallo-ß-Lactamase-Producing Acinetobacter baumannii from Clinical Specimens of Atma Jaya Hospital in 2014 until 2016. The study was conducted in January until November 2016 in the Laboratory of Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine, Atma Jaya Catholic University. MBL production test conducted by Double-Disc Synergy Test method.
Results: From January 2014 until September 2016, most common isolates found in the Laboratory of Microbiology Atma jaya and listed in WHONET 5.6 are E.coli (n=271), S.aureus (n=172), K.Pneumonia (n=115), A.baumannii (n=97), and P. aeruginosa (n=71). A. baumannii isolates mostly came from pus or abscess (34.78%), sputum specimens (26.09%), hospital environment (13.04%), urine (8.7%), blood specimens (8.7%), feses (4.35%) and sputum intubation (4.35%). Prevalence of Metallo-ß-Lactamase-Producing A.baumannii is 60.8% (14/23) and Non-Metallo-ß-Lactamase-Producing A.baumannii is 39.2% (9/23). Twelve out of fourteen isolates of Metallo-ß-Lactamase-Producing A.baumannii (85.71%) are resistant to imipenem an meropenem, 1 isolate (7.14%) resistant to meropenem, and 1 isolate (7.14%) resistant to imipenem. Three out of nine isolates of Non-Metallo-ß-Lactamase-Producing A.baumannii (33.33%) are resistant to imipenem and meropenem, 4 isolates (44.44%) are sensitive to imipenem and meropenem, and 2 isolates (22.22%) are sensitive to meropenem.
Conclusions : Prevalence of isolate of A. baumannii listed in WHONET 5.6 from January 2014 until September 2016 is 13.36%. Prevalence of Metallo-ß-Lactamase-Producing A.baumannii is 53.5% and mostly came from pus or abscess.
