Abstract
BACKGROUND Success therapy rate in Indonesia hasn’t reached national target 84% yet. Medication adherence is one of factors affecting therapy. SMS Scheduler is an application of smartphone which can send SMS automatically, therefore, SMS can be a media for improving medication adherence. The aim of the study was to explore the effectivity of sms Scheduler Apps to medication adherence according to Morisky Medication Adherence Scale – 8 (MMAS-8) among tuberculosis patients in Atma Jaya Hospital
METHODS This research is an experimental analytic-descriptive research which designed as an cross sectional prospective. This research was conducted by sending SMS twice a day to reminding patient to take their pills and compare the adherence with control group. RESULTS positive response about the SMS’ advantages was gained from most of respondents (85.7%), however, no statistical difference between intervention group (28.6%) and control group (33.3%)with high MMAS Score, and intervention group (14.3%) and control group (8.3%) with low MMAS-8 score, respectively.
CONCLUSION The usage of SMS scheduler has no significance for improving adhrence in tuberculosis treatment according to MMAS-8 but two-way SMS can be a media to follow up patients.
