Abstract
Background: Okra is one of the plants used by the community, can be found in everyday household life and is famous for plants that can be used to lower blood sugar levels. Such plants can be consumed and have various other benefits such as antihiperlipidemia, antibacterial, antioxidant, and can be used in the cosmetics industry, the pharmaceutical and the food. Although best known to the characteristics of okra that has flavonoids, easy to grow, adapt and have a variety of benefits, okra can cause degeneration of testicular tissue when consumed in excess, so it can reduce the weight of the testes.
Objectives: This study aims to prove that there is a relationship A. esculentus consumption of certain amounts by weight of testes in Sprague Dawley.
Methods: The study design used is experimental in vivo studies were performed in Sprague Dawley rats. Okra extract given by stomach tube feeding to rats Sprague Dawley for 28 days, with 4 groups with group 1 as control and group 1, 2, 3 in a row with a dose of 250 mg / KgBW, 500 mg / KgBW, 750 mg / KgBW, with each group of seven rats.
Results: With one way ANOVA test, there is a significant difference (P <0.05) in the control group with group 4 (a dose of 750mg / kg), and was not significant (P> 0.05) in the control group with group 2 (dose of 250mg / kg) and group 3 (dose of 500mg / kg).
Conclusions: There is the influence of Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench in measured doses to Sprague Dawley rat testis weight. Testis weight loss was found in the group given the dose above 500 mg / KgBW, a group of 4 (750 mg / KgBW).
