Abstract
Background
Globalisation requires each individual to have good memory. A healthy diet is one of the main factor to optimize memory function. The flavonoid contain in Blueberry and cacao are believe to have a positive effect toward spatial memory in C57BL mice
Objectives
This study aimed to know the effect of theobroma cacao and blueberry toward spatial memory and to compare the effectiveness between bluebeerry and cocoa toward spatial memory.
Methods
This study was an experimental with Federer method as sampling method. Subjects are 18 C57BL mice, divided into three different groups. The first group is control group without any intervention. The second group is a group with blueberry intervention. The thrid group is a group with cacao intervention.The intervention will be done in 21 days The test will be held twice before and after intervention with Morris Water Maze.
Results
Control group increased 2,7 seconds(6%) and 1,25 metres (24,7%) in time length and total distance length. While the studied group with blueberry intervention increased 23,4 seconds (52,2%) and 3,02 metres (51%) in time length and distance length. The cocoa group increased 32,9 seconds (34,8%) and 3,14 metres (56,3%) consecutively in time and distance length. Blueberry and cocoa intervention shows significant result toward spatial memory.
Conclusions
Flavonoid in Theobroma cacao and Vaccinium Sp. give positive effect toward spatial memory in C57BL mice.There is no significant different between consumption of blueberry and cocoa toward spatial memory.
