Abstract
Background : Bullying is a health issue around the world which the prevalence and the impact is increasing. Emotional and behavioral problems as a result of bullying behavior impact on adolescent development, family, school and community.
Purposes : To know relation between parenting style and family relationship among junior high school students with bullying in Penjaringan North Jakarta.
Methods : This cross sectional research was done on 1.224 students of junior high school in Penjaringan North Jakarta. Respondents filled out a questionnaire on demographic, parenting style, and family cohesicon and adaption scale (FACES III). Analysis of this data is univariate and multivariate.
Results : The prevalence of bullying in junior high school students in Penjaringan is (35.9%) including (46.9%) involved as victims, (30.3%) as a victim and perpetrator, (22.8%) as a perpetrator, (64.1%) as an observer. There is (97.5%) of respondents with exposure parenting sytle and (14.4) extreme family relationship. Analysis using bivariate; chi-square revealed that exposure parenting style affected bullying behaviour as victim (p=0.02) and as victim and perpetrator (p=0.04).Analysis using multivariate; logistic regression revealed that exposure parenting style not affected positive bullying behaviour (victim and victim and perpetrator).
Conlusions : Exposure parenting style (authoritarian, permissive, mixed) had a role in the occurrence of bullying behaviour among adolescence (victim and victim and perpetrator).
