Abstract
Background : The prognosis of prostate cancer is usually determined with Gleason Score, but Gleason Score alone could not predict the prognosis as accurate as the combination of Gleason Score and proliferation rate. Therefore, it is important to find out whether there is correlation between Gleason Score and proliferation rate which could be measured through Ki-67 protein expression in prostate cancer cells.
Objective : To analyze the correlation between Gleason score and Ki-67 protein expression in prostate cancer.
Methods : This study is a correlation analysis study using Ki-67 immunohistochemistry staining of 10 prostate cancers which are diagnosed from 2008 to 2015 at Atma Jaya Hospital, Pluit, North Jakarta and obtained with TURP biopsy procedures. Gleason score and Ki-67 protein expression data are analyzed with Gamma correlation test to attain the correlation coefficient. Results and Conclusion : There is a very strong correlation between Gleason score and Ki-67 protein expression which is both statistically and clinically significant. The positive correlation shows that as the Gleason score increase, the Ki-67 protein expression in prostate cancer would increase as well.
