Between 2015 and 2050, the proportion of the world’s older adults is estimated to almost double from about 12% to 22% . One of neuropsychiatric disease that is often suffered by older people is depression. Social support has been known to be a protective factor for elder mental health. Aims: To know the associoation of social support and depression among the elderly in Kelurahan Cideng.. Method : This research used descriptive-analytic studies with cross sectional approach. This research conducted in Kelurahan Cideng on August-September 2015. The respondents were elder who are aged 60 years old and older. Data retrieval through interviewed using the questionnaire and the data analysis used chi-square test & one way ANOVA test. Result: The total respondents were 195 people. Prevalence of depression among the elder was 12,8%. The level of social support received by the eldery was in the category of medium and high, 46,2% and 50,3% respectively. Family was the highest support that received by the elder (74,9%) compared with friends and significant others. Chi-square test showed there was no association of social support and depression among the elderly (?>0,05), but there was an inversed association of friends support and depression among the elderly (?<0,05). Chi-square test also showed there was an association of family emotional support and depression among the elderly (?=0,02). One way ANOVA test showed there was no association of social support and depression (?>0,05). But, there was an association of friends support at the high category medium category(?=0,008). Conclusion: There was no association of social support and depression among the elderly, but there was an association between family emotional support and depression.
