As an exciting fast-developing multi-disciplinary subject of study in the world, ESP is gaining more and more attention in both English learning world and many other fields. Though the importance of ESP teaching has come to be realized after long being ignored, the practice has not been quite satisfactory. Towards the 21st century, ESP teaching and teachers are facing both big challenges and great opportunities. This paper analyzes ESP from the aspects of teaching, testing and evaluation, and teacher development. It is suggested that adequate attention be paid to theoretical studies of ESP to deepen the current reform of ESP teaching and research.
