The goal in the creation of the BERI was to provide a means of assessing a critical aspect of the individuation process, that is, how young adults behaviorally respond to emotion-evoking situations in relations with their parents. The results of three studies using the current version of the BERI are presented and provide preliminary evidence for the construct validity and reliability of the BERI.
