Abstract
Microstrip dipole antenna with resistive loading
is Ultra Wideband (UWB) antenna which is potentially applied for Ground Penetrating Radar Application (GPR). Thee antenna radiation pattern have two main lobe with opposite direction which be able to increasee the clutter effect and make it difficult to achieve the good detection accuracy. In this research, modification of the microstrip dipole into U shape is investigated for achieving a single main beam. Calculations of the antenna footprint have been performed and the result shows that the modification causes the antenna has a radiation pattern with single main beam. Offset of the antenna footprint should be considered related to the interpretation the post processing result. The offset is increase if the soil permittivity is increase. The microstrip bends on the U shape haven't significant influence to the matching impedance at antenna input port.
