This study describes the development of a short marital assessment instrument called the Marital Problems Questionnaire (MPQ), which provides behavioral information about overall marital adjustment, specific conflict areas, and divorce risk. Its psychometric properties were examined by first administering it, along with the MAT and MSl, to 350 couples, and then examining its reliability and validity. The results suggest that the MPQ is suitable for assessing marital problems in both clinical and research settings.
