By at least one key measure, the global economy has returned to pre-recession levels, although manufacturing at large and plastics processing in particular still face a long road back to more satisfactory levels of business. "The good old days,” as Arved Teleki referred to them, ended for the global economy in Q3 2008. That’s when worldwide GDP began a synchronized descent that bottomed out in the first quarter of last year. Teleki, chief economist at Chemical Market Assoc. Inc. (CMAI; Houston, TX), forecast at CMAI’s World Petrochemical Conference (WPC; March 24-25, Houston) that a return to pre-peak levels was likely to occur last month or this month.
