Isi artikelIndonesia’s anticorruption efforts have faced another setback this month as political infighting will mean a greatly watered down Money Laundering Bill limps its way into the House of Representatives later this year. The new Money Laundering Bill, first submitted in 2006, aims to strengthen the basis for combating money laundering in the country. The bill was put forward by the government and proposed a number of amendments to the 15/2002 and 25/2003 Bills on Money Laundering which to date have proven highly ineffective in bringing cases to trial. The House working committee deliberating the bill has been unable to agree on a number of key points, the most contentious of which have related to the extended mandate proposed for Indonesia’s financial intelligence unit, the PPATK.
