Abstract
Background : Nosocomial infections are infections acquired in hospital. This infections has been one of health problems that are more concerning. According to Hajje et al study , the prevalence of nosocomial infections is 42% . Mostly caused by Gram negative (89%),i.e. Escherichia coli , Pseudomonas aeruginosa , Acinetobacter baumannii and Klebsiella sp.. Infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa can cause fatal complications and death. Research approach: To determine acquisition of Pseudomonas aeruginosa - a bacteria than can have potential to cause nosocomial infections – in the intensive care unit , operating room and in Mawar ( surgery ward ) room at Atma Jaya Hospital. Methods : This study is a descriptive observational study with cross sectional approach . Specimens were swabs of medical equipment , hands and nares anterior of the health care workers and patient in ICU , operating room and Mawar room Atma Jaya Hospital . Isolation were using Cetrimide agar, following by Identification of suspected isolates. Microbiology routine procedure of Gram-negative bacteria on the basis of biochemical reactions, were performed. Result: A total of 80 samples have been collected. There were no Pseudomonas aeruginosa acqusition , neither in ICU , operating room , nor in mawar room Atma Jaya Hospital. Conclusion :Medical equipment , hands of patients and health workers , as well as the nares anterior of health workers in ICU , operating room , and mawar room of Atma Jaya Hospital which included in this study, exempt from Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
