Abstract
Background: Lymphatic filariasis (LF) is a tropical disease which is transmitted by mosquito bites. Almost 1.4 billion people around the world are at risk of LF. One attempt to eliminate LF is by performing Integrated Vector Control by using liquid vaporizer. This experiment uses extract from Soursop leaves (Annona. muricata L.) as an environment safety-larvacide against Culex sp. larva.
Methods: The design of this research is experimental by comparing the lethal effect between concentration and time. The number of larva used for each experiment was 20. The testing concentrations of Soursop extract were 2500 mg/L; 3500 mg/L and 4500 mg/L. The lethal effect was observed at 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, 4 hours, 5 hours and 6 hours.
Result: There were no significant differences on lethal effect between of every each concentration, namely p = 0.156 (p > 0.05). While the lethal effects were seen every hour for six hours showed significant differences . Conclusion: Soursop leaf ethanol extract at concentrations of 2500 mg/L; 3500mg/L; and 4500 mg/L have the lethal effect as an larvacide against the Culex sp., eventhough there was not any significant differences between the concentrations. The higher the concentration of the extract, the largest number of Culex sp. got the lethal effect.
