Background. The incidence rate of gestational diabetes mellitus is increasing in many countries. This situation can give bad effect for the fetus in the womb. One of the consequences is neonatal hyperbilirubinemia. The purpose of writing is to know whether there is an association between hyperglycemia in women who are pregnant with high levels of serum bilirubin in neonates. Methods. Analyzing journals from an authentic sources. The type of method is systematic review. Journals associated with gestational diabetes mellitus and neonatal hyperbilirubinemia of the results of various countries since 2004-2015. Result. The incidence of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia is associated with macrosomia and polycythemia. The association between gestational diabetes mellitus with neonatal hyperbilirubinemia is influenced by several factors, diet, ethnicity, maternal weight, type of therapy, history of pregnancy, maternal age, maternal education, time of diagnosis, social level, education level, economic level and exercise. The implementation of early detection (before 24 weeks) to maternal with or without risk of gestational diabetes mellitus is very useful.
