With increasing age, the incidence of hypertension also increases. Objective: To determine the knowledge and behavior of the elderly about hypertension. Research design: Analitic study with cross-sectional design through interviews and blood pressure measurement with 61 elderly at various facilities. Method: A total of 60,7% of the elderly had poor knowledge about hypertension and 39,3% of elderly had good knowledge about hypertension. A total of 62.3% of elderly had a good behavior towards hypertension and 37,7% of elderly had a bad behavior towards hypertension. There is a significant correlation between the level of education and knowledge of hypertension. Further, there is also a significant correlation between knowledge of hypertension and the degree of hypertension in those with controlled and uncontrolled hypertension. These results indicate that behavior towards hypertension is not only influenced by aspects of knowledge, but also influenced by other factors. Knowledge and behavior of the elderly is very important to prevent and treat hypertension. Therefore, further study of this topic, as well as education to the general public, is needed.
