Abstract
Pomegranate (Punica granatum) possess high antioxidant compounds especially in its peels. Pomegranate varieties in Indonesia are red and white pomegranate. Qualitative phytochemical screening: alkaloid, flavonoid, and tannin done to ethanolic extract red and white pomegranate. The free radical scavenging activity and inhibition concentration (IC50) determined by DPPH radicals method with BHT as antioxidant control. Alkaloid, flavonoid, and tannin compounds was found in both samples. Antioxidant activities of both samples was higher than BHT. Ethanolic extract of white pomegranate peels possessed the highest free radical scavenging activity, IC50 of 3,91±0,5 µg/mL. Ethanolic extract of white pomegranate peels exhibited higher activities than red pomegranate.
