Isi artikelThis paper analyzes the speeches of Senator Barack Obama during his race for presidency. Two speeches from primary nights and one speech from final primary night are analyzed in detail, focusing on the strategies that Obama uses to persuade the listener. The findings from the study reveals that repetition, using and evoking emotional appeal, transitioning between pronouns “I”, “we”, and “you”, and extensive use of metaphors are used as persuasive techniques to create dramatic appeal and motivate Americans to vote for him.
