This paper is aimed at describing four major topics in semantics, they are: the nature of meaning, semantics relations among words, the contribution of syntactic structure to the interpretation of sentences, and the role of nongrammatical factors in the understanding of utterances. The nature of meaning describes lexical semantics, grammatical semantics, and logical semantics. Semantics relations among words will focus on three major axes, they are paradigmatic, syntagmatic, and derivational. The Contribution of Syntactic Structure to the Interpretation of Sentences involves the term thematic role. In addition, the role of nongrammatical factors in the understanding of utterances provides cooperative principles, speech act and deixis.
