Abstract
Backgrounds: Advance development of technology in inventing electronic communication devices raises interest of public in using mobile device. Mobile device usage give comfort and ease in doing everyday activities but excessive usage can induce pain, especially upper extremities pain.
Purpose: To find out the relation of type of mobile device, duration, and frequency of use towards upper extremity pain in medical students of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia Class 2012.
Methods: This study is a cross-sectional descriptive analytic study. Subjects were Medical Students of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia Class 2012 in North Jakarta in total of 136 students. This study was held during December 2015.
Results: There is no association between types of mobile device with upper extremity pain (p=0.526).There is association between duration of usage with upper extremity pain (p=0.003). There is no association between frequency of mobile device use with upper extremity pain (p=0.344).
Conclusion: There is no association between types of mobile phone with upper extremity pain in medical students of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia Class 2012. There is association between duration of mobile device use with upper extremity pain in medical students of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia Class 2012. There is no association between frequency of use with upper extremity pain in medical students of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia Class 2012.
