Isi artikelThis research investigates how the native speakers of Sundanese and Javanese of English department perform English request in academic setting. This research conducted within the framework of the Cross-Cultural Speech Act Realization Project (henceforth CCSARP) (Blum-Kulka, House, & Kasper, 1989), the researchers combined seven substrategies into three (direct, conventionally indirect, and hints). Seven Sundanese and seven Javanese native speakers of English Department in one of University participated in this research. A Discourse Completion Test (DCT) was used to generate the data related to the request strategy. This study endeavors to explore the similarities and differences in requests in academic settings two different languages. The results showed that the conventionally indirect strategy was the most preferred choice for Sundanese and Javanese native speakers of English department students.
